Legal & Paralegal Studies

Program Benefits

From the Program Director

When asked why they are entering the Legal & Paralegal Studies Program at Woodbury College, students invariably answer that they "love the law." I think that is why many of us, students and instructors, start at Woodbury. That passion and devotion to the law continues throughout our time here, and, hopefully, long after. The way students study and learn the law at Woodbury is what makes the difference, both professionally and personally. By integrating theory and practice, the Legal & Paralegal Program fosters open, inquiring, and disciplined minds coupled with the practical skills of the legal practitioner. The result is well-trained, self-confident legal professionals.

Real education

Graduates of the Paralegal or Pre-Law programs can expect careers offering intellectually challenging work, growing job opportunities, and a career in law for less than the cost of law school. Plus, adding legal skills to your resume can improve your current job, or give you a head start to go on to law school or "read law" in Vermont to become an attorney.

Graduates also have the advantage of understanding how law affects them in daily situations, such as conducting real estate transactions, understanding their civil rights, handling divorce or child support issues, or discussing advance care directives or wills with aging parents.

Real experience

Woodbury College is among the oldest providers of paralegal training in the United States, offering programs continuously since 1975. All instructors are legal professionals, including attorneys, police officers, judges, and other law professionals, and the curriculum is evaluated continually to assure the most relevant instruction. Woodbury's long connection to the legal community means that students learn law as it is practiced, and gain legal connections useful in helping them find employment.
