Alumni Profile

Greg Hessel '98

What is your current job title and who is your employer?
Currently I am Principal of ReGeneration Resources, a consulting firm specializing in managing change and conflict across generations.

Where do you live?
I live with my wife Ariel (another Woodbury grad) and our son Nico in Brattleboro, VT

Major?  Mediation Certificate

What were you doing before you came to Woodbury?
I had just gotten a part time job in a community mediation center when I came to Woodbury.  I knew I needed more mediation training so I signed up for the certificate program.

Why did you choose Woodbury College?
Woodbury has a great reputation, I was friends with a few former students who all spoke highly of Woodbury, and I liked the fact that in those days you could spend the night crashing on the couches.

What skills did you learn at Woodbury that you are using in your work and life? How?
My work builds on the skills I got at Woodbury, and the skills I gained consulting to businesses over the last ten years and in a Masters in Organizational Development from American University.

What do you do in your work?
I consult to organizations, specializing in family business, helping them manage change and conflict.  Family businesses involve a number of complex systems including family dynamics, business systems, and ownership systems.  Often solving a problem in one system creates a problem in another.  Keeping all three systems in mind, I work with family businesses around succession issues, role clarity, strategic planning, and conflict management.Everything I learned at Woodbury is valuable in my current work.  I am constantly helping others understand and manage conflict.  Woodbury gave me the foundation to become very good at this.

Have you continued your education since you attended Woodbury?
As stated above, I went back for a Masters in Organizational Development a few years ago when I started working with more complex organizations.

Is there anything you’d like to say to a prospective student?
It is a great program, especially for adult learners.  As a trainer I learned a lot about effective adult education by studying at Woodbury.
