Admissions - Undergraduate Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Schedule

Q: Do I need to be at Woodbury College five days a week?

A: No. Woodbury's programs are designed for adult students with busy lives. On-campus undergraduate programs take no more than two days per week, and many hands-on/online classes are also available.  In addition, our Paralegal Certificate Program is now available completely online.

Full-time undergraduate students attend classes one-and-a-half to two days per week for three ten-week terms each year (30 weeks per year).

Q: Is my program available on the weekend?

A: Most Woodbury programs offer weekend options:

Paralegal and Pre-Law: Weekend (Fri. night-Sat.) and some workshops on Sundays.  There may also be classes on Thursday evenings, as well as some classes which are entirely online.

Advocacy: Since Advocacy is an interdisciplinary option, students choose from among all undergraduate classes offered.

General Education courses (required to earn an associate's or bachelor's degree, but not for a professional certificate) are offered Thursdays evenings, Friday evenings and Saturdays.

Workshops: Workshops usually meet on weekends or evenings.

Online Library and Computer Lab

Q: How does the online library work?

A: The Woodbury library is available online from wherever students have an internet connection. Students have access to more than 1,600 full-text periodicals and more than 10,000 full-text books which cover subjects in all disciplines. Students have full use of the powerful WestLaw database, a full text electronic library with more than 16,000 sources in law and public affairs. Students may also use the State Supreme Court Library.

Q: Do I need to have a computer to attend Woodbury?

A: Yes. You will need to use email and other computer programs even if your classes are all face-to-face.  Students who do not have access to a computer at home may use the Woodbury College computer lab, which is fully equipped with commonly used software programs, as well as Internet access.

The Classroom

Q: What is the average class size?

A: Woodbury's hands-on approach to education requires a low student-teacher ratio. The average class size is 12; maximum class size is 15. Maximum workshop size is 24.

Q: How much homework should I expect?

A: This varies from student to student, course to course, and week to week. However, Woodbury's programs are based on "action learning," which means students engage in activities that supplement the classroom lessons. The action learning may involve further inquiry, application, problem solving, or other activities that bring classroom learning to life. On average, undergraduate students spend 5-8 hours per week per class in action learning and other forms of homework.

Q: What is special about Woodbury's teaching and learning methods?

A: We're dedicated to providing you with the skills and knowledge for professional career success and effective citizenship. Woodbury's programs are all practice-based, giving you the chance to refine new knowledge and skills, both in the classroom and in the real world.

The evaluation system relies on ongoing written and oral feedback of your progress, as demonstrated through a variety of activities, including formal essays, reflection papers, oral and written reports, standard documents of the field, panel discussions, role plays, group work, journals, and participation in class discussions and workshop activities.

At the end of each term, you will write a self-evaluation of your strengths and weaknesses in each area covered by a given course. Instructors then respond with their assessment of your skills and suggestions for further growth.

Woodbury College does not use a letter or numeric grade system.
